Job Description
General Hand:
A General Hand is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of the New Energy construction project. Duties involve performing a variety of tasks as directed, manual and equipment assisted, to ensure the project is completed to a high standard and according to plan.
Key responsibilities include:
Carry out manual labour tasks such as lifting, digging, and drilling
Use hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery under guidance
Assist with material movements and general site works
Follow all SOPs, toolbox talks, and site instructions
Wear and maintain required PPE, and follow all health and safety procedures
Report any hazards, near-misses, or incidents
Work professionally and cooperatively with the team and contractors
Follow all company policies and procedures
Operator:
An Operator is responsible for the operation of heavy machinery and construction vehicles on New Energy construction projects. Duties involve performing a variety of tasks as directed, manual and equipment assisted, to ensure the project is completed to a high standard and according to plan.
Key responsibilities include:
Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, trenchers, skid steers, and piling rigs safely and competently
Carry out material movements and machine-assisted tasks to support site works
Perform routine pre-start checks and report any faults or issues
Support the crew with manual tasks (lifting, digging, assembly, etc.) as needed
Use hand and power tools in line with SOPs and safety procedures
Follow instructions, SOPs, and Inspection & Testing Checklists
Participate in toolbox talks and contribute to a strong safety culture
Wear correct PPE at all times and report any hazards or near-misses
Be punctual, clock in/out accurately, and comply with leave and attendance policies
Work as a positive and reliable team member to get the job done safely and efficiently
Team Leader: The Team Leader is responsible for leading and working alongside a crew of General Hands and Operators to ensure daily targets are met safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. This role involves task allocation, on-the-tools leadership, quality monitoring, daily reporting, and ensuring compliance with SOPs and project requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead and work alongside team to meet daily targets safely, efficiently, and to high quality
Motivate team, allocate tasks, and support skills development and cross-training
Monitor quality, ensure compliance with SOPs, specifications, and checklists
Communicate progress, issues, and safety concerns promptly
Operate machinery and use construction tools as required within competence and licensing
Promote a strong safety culture, ensure proper PPE use, and report hazards or near misses
Collaborate professionally with team members, contractors, and management
Desired Skills and Experience
General Hand:
Physically fit and ready for manual labour
Reliable, punctual, and can follow direction
Full NZ Class 1 license
Site experience and safe work practices (preferred)
Operator:
Skilled in machinery like excavators, skid steers, trenchers
Advantage: trailer use, forklift, concrete saws, etc.
Team Leader:
Proven crew leadership in construction or civil works
Strong communicator with a safety-first mindset
Fit and hands-on – lead by example by getting stuck in!
Class 1 license (Class 2 for machinery operators)
