Job Description

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental compliance of a project. This role is responsible for overseeing and implementing health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and programs for the assigned project. It works closely with the project team to identify and mitigate potential risks, ensure compliance with relevant regulations, and role model all HSE values, beliefs, behaviours, and attitudes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Promote and enforce site health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Manage PPE compliance for all personnel on site.
  • Identify, report, and manage hazards and near misses.
  • Maintain and update Risk Register, HSE Management Plan, and first aid registers.
  • Conduct site audits, inspections, and investigations.
  • Oversee training and competency assessments for staff and supervisors.
  • Communicate HSE information clearly with all project stakeholders, as required.
  • Build and maintain relationships with contractors and visitors.
  • Lead HSE meetings and site tours as required.
  • Act as a visible role model for HSE culture and values on site.
     

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proven HSE management experience, preferably in construction
  • Knowledge of relevant HSE laws, regulations, and standards
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical, organized, detail-oriented, and good with data entry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Team player with a proactive, safety-first mindset
  • Well-presented and punctual
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Full NZ driver’s license (Class 1)

Additional HSE training or certification is desirable.
