Job Description
The Quality Manager oversees on-site quality assurance to ensure all construction activities meet project specifications, compliance standards, and Inspection and Test Checklist (ITC) requirements. This role operates in the field daily, providing practical guidance, assessing works against standards, and driving continuous improvement. The Quality Manager has the authority to stop works, direct retraining, and ensure corrective actions are completed to meet quality expectations. Working closely with the Project Manager and with oversight from the Quality Improvement Manager, this role ensures alignment across on-site teams, promotes a quality-first culture, and ensures all work is delivered right the first time.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading implementation of the Quality Management Plan (QMP)
Overseeing quality control of mechanical works and materials
Managing ITPs, checklists, and quality documentation
Conducting site inspections, audits, and support pre-commissioning
Investigate non-conformances and implement corrective actions
Maintaining skills matrix and ensuring team competency
Providing QA training and promote a strong quality culture
Collaborating with subcontractors and project teams on quality standards
Supporting audits and ensuring compliance with specs and client requirements
Desired Skills and Experience
3+ years’ senior QA/QC experience on construction projects
Previous leadership / team management experience.
Formal qualifications in one or more of the following: Quality Management, Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Construction), NZ Electrical Trades Certification, NZQA-accredited Quality Assurance or Auditing qualification, Six Sigma, ASQ CQE.
Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specs, and scopes of work
Hands-on approach to mechanical QA, with experience in renewable energy (preferred)
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and QA tools)
Approachable, positive, reliable, and team-focused
Excellent communicator with the ability to coach and support site teams
Full NZ Class 1 driver license
Bonus: ISO 9001 auditing training, trade background or machinery experience (e.g., forklifts, trenchers, piling rigs).
